The Ant and the Chrysalis
Children around the world love to hear folk tales, and parents and grandparents love to tell them. The Ant and the Chrysalis is about an ant who befriends a mysterious creature, a chrysalis, hanging from a branch. The ant doesn't know that a transformation is imminent. She becomes frustrated when the chrysalis, despite all her efforts to befriend it, doesn't respond the way she expects. The fable demonstrates how when the time is right, a friendship can take new and unexpected forms.
Myths are stories that explain the natural world. Reading this book can segue to children writing their own myth to explain natural phenomena, and discussing that a chrysalis is the state between transforming from a caterpillar to a butterfly.
